I sat down with my friend Brother Luck for The Superpower Quest: Superhumans series—and wow, this one was rich — full of laughter and wisdom. If you don’t know Brother already, he’s a celebrity chef, author, DJ, keynote speaker, and a deeply committed mental health advocate. But labels can’t contain him. “You’re not putting me in a box,” he told me with a roguish smile.
He doesn’t like boxes.
He’s learned to live beyond preconceived limits. He’s learned to overcome the limiting voices that tell us what we can’t do. This conversation was an origin story, a business masterclass, and a vulnerable invitation—all wrapped into one.
The Watcher and the Dreamer
Brother’s creativity didn’t begin in the kitchen. It started with stories. “I got lost in stories,” he said. “It’s how I survived.” As a kid, he wasn’t just playing—he was observing, absorbing, imagining. He was curious, watchful, noticing the stories beneath casual interactions. Yes, this was part of survival, but it was also fuel for the imagination.
Through the course of life, and with the help of mentors, he learned to step outside of his perceived limits, and into the realm of imagination. He told me, “The biggest question I ask myself all the time is why not?”
Why not DJ in Ibiza? Why not write a book? Why not build a course for restaurant entrepreneurs? Why not?
To DJ in Ibiza
One of my favorite parts of the interview happened when I asked him, “What is your big ‘Why Not’ right now?
Brother’s current dream is to DJ in Ibiza. He’s a serious DJ — leveraging his talent for creating culinary experiences into creating musical experiences. He’s been refining his skills, submitting mixes, and envisioning the experience. One of his mixes was accepted by Ibiza Radio! Subsequently, he received an unrelated, providential opportunity to travel Ibiza. Now he’s planning a trip—flights, islands, and even the possibility of cooking and spinning at a local spot. “Why not?”
He sees connections. He sees opportunities. He weaves possibilities into the tapestry of reality. This was a huge theme of our conversation — how a “why not” attitude and the willingness to press into imagination can create unexpected and delightful opportunities.
Radical Originality
One of Brother’s Superpowers is originality. “There’s no recipe like me,” he said with a laugh. “The Colonel ain’t got nothing on this chicken recipe.” He took the Superpower Quest survey and came out a Dreamer/Leader, driven by Progress—which makes perfect sense. His ability to dream big, and his love for bringing out the potential in others, walk hand in hand. This is what has made him an effective leader, able to successfully transition from chef to CEO.
Wisdom Worth Framing
His life has been an entrepreneurial journey. We talked about fear. We talked about how hard it can be to take the risk that leads to the reward of a new opportunity. I asked him what advice he’d give to someone scared to take the leap. His response hit deep:
“Every day is a cliff and I’m scared every day. But you build the airplane on the way down.”
He also said:
“I’m most out of control in my life when I’m trying to control my life.”
Mentorship, Mental Health, and Making Room
What lights Brother up most these days? Mentorship and mental health. “My story’s meant for someone else,” he said. “That’s why I share it—over and over—on every platform.” His vulnerability isn’t just a story. It’s a strategy for connection. It’s how he coaches people upwards.
From Chef to CEO to Coach to …
Brother is evolving. The kitchen taught him discipline. Now he’s building courses, workshops, and coaching offerings to help others rise. “You have to commit to creating the business before it exists,” he said. And you can feel his dream taking shape—Ibiza turntables and all.
