When I Got Paid for Something I'd Do for Free

How to recognize your Superpower, AKA, your Ikigai — that sweet spot where passion, skill, service, and income meet — and follow the clues that point you to a life of greater joy and effectiveness.

There’s a clue in the work you’d gladly do for free. It reveals your Superpower — that gift you love, that grows you, that helps others.

When Others Pay, Pay Attention

If people will pay you to do what you’d do for free, you’re stepping into your Superpower — similar to your “Ikigai” — that beautiful overlap of what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for.

How To Find Your Ikigai And Transform Your Outlook On Life ...

Joy + Value = Ikigai

Your joy matters. So does their willingness to pay. When those combine with skill and service, you’ve landed somewhere very special.

My Testimony

I’ve started getting paid for making connections — something I’d do for free all day long. Those joyful checks confirm that the gift I’ve developed over a lifetime is seen as valuable enough that people gladly pay me to use it.

The first time I got a substantial check for a connection, I felt giddy. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach as I showed my wife the money coming in. It was absolutely exhilarating. It felt so affirming to have someone voluntarily donate a commission to me because the value they received from the exercise of my gift.

Pursue It with Courage

Getting paid for your Superpower isn’t the only way to confirm your Superpower. It’s just one clue of many. I’d love to see millions of people name their Superpower. And I’d love to see millions of people compensated for the exercise of their special gift.

Keep following the clues, keep growing, keep experimenting and taking risks.
